about wicks & whiskers

A candle bar like no other, wicks & whiskers is committed to delivering an exceptional experience for our guest chandlers and our foster kittens alike.

After being asked a very simple question, a walk past an empty shop and during dinner with friends, wicks & whiskers was born (see full story from our founder Kristine Perry below). Creating a signature scented candle is an incredibly fun experience, but without the proper tools and guidance, it can be incredibly complicated with disappointing results. We provide the tools and guidance and promise you will love your results!

Kitten rescue is a cause very near and dear to our hearts and we are very pleased to set aside a space dedicated to that purpose.  We can’t possibly take every kitten to our house, but we can provide them with a loving setting as they wait to be adopted.

mission

Our mission is to provide a delightfully fun atmosphere in which to create a signature scented candle that will bring warmth and joy to your home. Through our commitment to quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction, we aim to become a trusted and beloved brand in the candle industry.

Second is to provide a delightfully fun atmosphere for our foster kittens in which they can run free, play and interact with people and other kittens in a home-like setting instead of waiting on a forever home in a cage. We are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of kittens in need.

We invite you to join us on this incredible journey, where the power of scent, creativity, and feline companionship come together to create a truly unforgettable kitten & kandle experience.

how it all started…

It began with a simple question from a friend.  My husband was going to start working for him helping to manage his various business ventures and he asked me “what do you want to do?”

“I want to make candles.”

The answer just fell out of my mouth, without the slightest bit of hesitation, and I think it surprised us both.  About a week later we were walking past a vacant shop on our way to dinner and I said, “that would be a great spot for a candle bar, and it needs to have kittens.” Not sure where the “kittens” came from but about a half hour later, wicks & whiskers was born.

The candle bar idea came about because of 2020.  Like most people, I was stuck at home, completely bored, and thought it would be fun to try candle making. Just mix wax with a fragrance and pour it into a jar with a wick and you’ve got yourself a candle, right?

Nope.  Seems there is a lot of chemistry involved (which I got a D- in college, by the way) and all kinds of terms like fragrance load and over-wicking and hot throw just to scratch the surface of the vernacular.  Sure, it was fun, but a bit complex.

So, I did the research and the burn testing, wasting a bunch of wax and jars on candles that either tunneled (another bit of the lingo) had flames too high for comfort or had little cold throw  and now have it down to a science that my chemistry prof would be saying “you did that?”

Chandlers (another term) at wicks & whiskers can now enjoy making their own signature scented candle without all the added complications. It truly is a “just mix wax with a fragrance and pour it into a jar with a wick and you’ve got yourself a candle” experience.

So, the kittens part.  Overcrowded rescues and shelters break my heart.  There is nothing sadder than kittens in cages.  There are some fabulous people trying to help and I want too as well.

By donating a portion of our shop to foster kittens, not only are we helping the overrun rescues by providing a place for their kittens to be in a more “homey” setting, our visitors are aiding in their socialization and preparing them for their forever home. And if you happen to want to take one home, great!  Take two.
